Hello! My name is Catherine and I am from Lexington, Kentucky. I graduated from the University of Kentucky (UK) with a degree in international economics & Spanish and a minor in international business. At UK, I was involved with Alpha Phi sorority, College of Arts & Sciences Ambassadors, Kentucky Kernel school newspaper, and International Studies Abroad Global Ambassador. I love fashion and travel. I studied abroad for two months each in Barcelona and Sevilla, Spain, and last summer I was a consular intern in the U.S. Embassy in Madrid for three months. I fell in love with Spain and decided to return by teaching English.
My senior year of college I started volunteering at the Village Branch Library as a homework help tutor. I taught math, language arts, science, English, and Spanish to middle and high school students from a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in a one-on-one setting. The majority of these students were English language learners coming from Spanish-speaking homes.
In the summer of 2018, I completed a teaching fellowship with Americorps Breakthrough Collaborative (BT) in Austin, Texas. BT is a non-profit organization dedicated to paving the path for future first generation college students. At BT, I worked as a math teacher in the summer program they have for the students, which is designed like a summer camp. I was responsible for 20 students and taught two math classes each day in addition to teaching elective classes. I gained a lot of teaching experience that I have utilized as a language assistant in Madrid.
