It is my first year as a language assistant and I have been placed in IES Diego Velazquez, which is a secondary bilingual school. There are four other language assistants. It’s a very big school with many teachers and students. The grades in the school are from 1st of ESO to 2nd of Bachilerato.
Diego Velazquez is located in Torrelodones, Madrid, a small town on the northwest side of Madrid. It takes me about 30 minutes to get to school from the Moncloa bus station. It’s a nice town in the mountains and I can see the 4 towers of Madrid in the distance.
I have been assigned to different grades levels such as 1st, 2nd, 4th of ESO and 1st of Bachilerato. Since it is a bilingual school, the students have subjects such as history, geography, technology, and science in English. Most of the classes I work with are English classes, but I have also worked in biology and history classes. I am only with each of my classes once a week, except for one of my 2nd of ESO classes where I see them twice a week. Overall, the English level of the students and the English teachers I work with is very high and I am very impressed.
