As an English language & cultural assistant, I am excited to teach English and U.S. culture to Spanish students. Drawing from my teaching experience, perspective as a first-generation American, and background working in cross-cultural environments, I will create a positive classroom where I motivate students to channel their curiosity.
Goals:
- To create a safe, respectful, and challenging learning environment in which we all learn and grow together
- To set and maintain the highest expectations for myself and my students
- To always be prepared for class with all materials ready in advance
- To tell students the objective in the beginning of class
- To monitor student work time and moves on appropriately to avoid downtime or rushing students
- To use individual and whole group redirects to achieve 100% student participation
- To be calm when responding to inappropriate behavior
- To reinforce appropriative behavior and correct inappropriate behavior immediately
- To vary tone and volume of voice depending on the task
- To use precise, brief, and focused language while giving instructions
- To circulate the class while students are working to be of assistance and address any questions
- To maintain eye contact and professional posture
“Making your room a place where student work hard, feel supported, and understand expectations.”
When there is a strong classroom culture, teachers teach more, students learn more, and everyone feels welcome and supported.
